The U.S. Supreme Court just gave Trump ‘the victory’ he has been waiting for

US President, Donald Trump is in a celebratory mood at the moment. The country’s apex court has allowed his travel ban to take partial effect. In the ruling, the court said persons from six majorly Muslim countries (Iran, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen) who lack a “bona fide relationship” with someone in the US would not be allowed in.

“As President, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm. I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hard working and productive,” Trump said in a statement.

Donald Trump will be turning up right now, as he has had a running battle with the courts over this Muslim ban issue, which he effected via an executive order. Trump’s order led to the swift ban of Muslims from flights into the US before it was blocked by a Federal Court, following a class action lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of two Iraqis who were held at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. In February, Seattle US District Judge James Robart, ruled that Trump’s order be halted temporarily, a decision Trump termed ‘ridiculous’ promising to fight it.

The president, who saw that he was having a hard time with the courts, signed a new executive order (this time Iraq was off the banned list), which many saw as a 2.0 version of the earlier ban. The new order received some backlash as the state of Hawaii sued the president over the ban. The new travel ban was blocked by another Federal judge, leaving Trump angry, as he vowed to engage in a long battle with the courts.

As he tried to get the ban lifted, US District Court Judge Derrick Watson placed the ban on an indefinite halt. Trump decided he would head to the Supreme Court as the Justice Department took the case to the US Appeals Court. At the Appeals Court, the ban suffered yet another defeat.

Today ruling by the Supreme Court is surely a victory for a president who has promised to Make America Great Again by keeping the “bad guys” out of the US.

It is yet to be seen if Trump will get what he wants – a full effect of the ban. But at the moment, the 45th President of the United States will take any victory he can lay his hands on.
